Arty Party

Hey all!

Just spent a pleasant day working on pixel art.

It occurred to me that my original splash with the space background and the rocket launch over a planet doesn't really capture the feel of the game, so one thing I did was update the splash. (And get about halfway through fixing the letters. I'll get to it tomorrow. Meh.) But yeah, I decided to use an actual gameplay screenshot with the lights turned down to give it a cozy-ish 'us vs. them' look.

Other upgrades include fleshing out grass and overgrowth terrain a bit so they appear more organic and less... minecrafty? (No dis to Minecraft.) I had so much trouble finding a good solution to that problem I actually asked Chat GPT and got a dozen very good strategies. So yeah, Chat GPT is the real MVP here.

I forget if this was in the previous version, but I also outlined trees, bandits, and the "classic" squad with black outlines. I seem to recall treating your pixel art this way has a way of making them pop out a bit. Looks weird up close, but I think it achieves the affect when you see it in the setting.

My tasklist is shrinking for my self-imposed Jan 31st deadline. With all that art out of the way, I'm working on animations and tutorials tomorrow.

Give the demo a spin if you have the chance. It shouldn't take too long, and your feedback is super valuable. This won't be your typical tactical RPG. This squad gameplay will be expanded into a world of procedural conflict where your decisions impact the storyline.

Cheers,

PajamaWolf
