Upcoming demo end of February 2024

Hey all,

I'm  a hobbyist developer with a passion for game design. Two years ago, while iterating on a core concept dear to me, I stumbled on a prototype that seemed to have promising gameplay. I've since been working part-time to bring it to fruition.

While it is not even close to complete, I feel it would benefit from more public development. Through this dev log, I hope to share with you some of the trials and pitfalls, as well as tricks and solutions, I've discovered (and will continue to discover) along this journey, while giving you all an opportunity to try the demo for yourselves and hear your stories.

I have taken some time off from my 'real' job to travel with my family and put more time into this little game, so while the demo will be free, if you enjoy it I would certainly appreciate a couple bucks kicked my way. I'm currently India, so it would buy a lot of chai.

So, what is this game?

The core concept is an RPG where your choices impact the greater world in an unscripted way. By that, I mean there are story elements built in, but the order and presence of those elements in your story depends on your playstyle. In this way you affect the game world and it reacts to you. You are not simply enacting what is already written.

For actual game play, I've gone through several genres, but the final version is a somewhat softened tactical RPG with minimal reliance on random number generation. There is a story involving escaping a planet-wide warzone, though I won't settle on it until I'm sure the gameplay is established.

The working title is This Godforsaken Rock.

To give you a sense of what this might look like, my inspirations for this project include:

- Dwarf Fortress and RimWorld (perhaps similar to Dwarf Fortress adventure mode, in the RimWorld setting)

- Fire Emblem and Advance Wars

- the board games Risk and Pandemic

- The Shadow Series by Orson Scott Card

Thank you all for reading. I'm preparing to release a clean demo for your inspection at the end of February, 2024.

Cheers,

PajamaWolf
